IS YOUR BABY SUFFERING FROM DIAPER RASH? CHECK OUT HOW TO COPE WITH IT

Diaper rash is a sort of skin inflammation that is pretty frequent with babies, despite your attempts to prevent it. You will know that your infant is suffering from a diaper rash when you find that there is a reddish patch on the thighs or near the pubic area of the little one.

Once you are aware that these are common occurrences, you can take measures to prevent them from occurring and also think of effective remedies so that the little one does not suffer much, because they will totally become so fussy and snap easily at things.

You are probably aware that it appears on the scalp of the baby, this also appears like a rash, but is a harmless one. The same can happen near the thighs and pubic area of the little one and this is clinically termed as seborrheic dermatitis. The skin down there turns reddish and appears waxy in patches. It can go away naturally within a few weeks or your paediatrician might recommend some ointment or gel to be applied locally. These patches may appear on the other parts of the body as well.

What Causes Diaper Rash?

If the skin gets rubbed, it will chafe against the surface of the diaper. The rashes appear as the baby’s skin is extremely tender and sensitive.
If you leave a wet diaper for a longer period, that is, if the diaper is not changed timely, rashes occur.

Rashes can be a result of either bacterial or yeast infection.
The baby’s skin might simply be allergic to the diaper. In such cases, you need to know the exact cause and plan some other suitable alternatives.

Some of the Conditions or Stages in which diaper rashes are common;

Let us have a look the conditions which are conducive for the development of diaper rashes in babies.

You will notice that the baby is suffering from diaper rash very frequently if he is sleeping in poopy diapers.
If the baby is having diarrhoea(frequent stooling).
Has just begun to eat solid food.(change in diet).
Most babies between the ages of eight to ten months are more likely to suffer from diaper rash.

How to Deal With Diaper Rash?

Have a quick look at the tips for dealing with diaper rashes.

The main rule is to check the diaper very often, whether or not it needs to be changed. Ensure that it is changed when it gets soiled or wet without delay.

Always use plain water to wash the thighs, bums and pubic area of the baby. Use mild soap only for washing off the stool.
Do not rub the thighs, bums and pubic area even if it is with a soft cloth. Try to dry the area by patting it dry as you clean it.

If the baby is already suffering from diaper rash, use wipes that are mild. Wipes that contain alcohol or are fragrant can be harsh on the sensitive skin of the baby and irritate it further. A soft washcloth is a better alternative.
Before you put on a fresh diaper, make sure that the area is fully clean and dry.
If you find that the rashes are getting ugly and painful, you need to visit your paediatrician and follow his instructions. He may suggest certain ointments, gels, creams or powders to aid faster healing.

For my kids, Sudocrem clears the rashes when I apply it on the affected area before putting on the diapers, after some days everything will clear up. Kindly Follow the tips mentioned above.

The other best alternative is to allow the rashes to heal by allowing the baby go completely diaper free for a few days, only if you can oh hehe, I can hear some mamas saying NO! but it will help air out the bottom and help the skin to heal faster.
Make sure that you keep the area free just after the baby has had his bowel movement.
