Do You Have Sore Throat and Cough? Check this Home Remedy Out!

Blocked nose, throat irritation and cough,  these seasonal infections are quite common during winters. While consulting a doctor is the last option, most of us tend to pop a pill or drink cough syrup. However, sometimes even these OTC medications fail to provide any respite.

And going to a doctor for every single problem is not what everyone feels like doing, especially if the condition is not interfering with your day-to-day activities. But if it fails to improve over time, then consulting a doctor is a must. In the meanwhile, as you take medication and try natural remedies, here is a simple tip you must follow that can help you to fight winter ailments like itchy throat and cough drink a glass of warm water.

How warm water helps?

When you cough, it causes chafing of the muscles in the respiratory tract. This friction not only irritates the throat but also causes constriction of the vocal cord. Drinking warm water is advised because it reduces the irritation and also improves the blood flow to the muscles causing muscle relaxation.

Moreover, warm water also helps in flushing toxins build up in the throat, providing relief from a sore throat. Secondly, drinking warm water helps in keeping the body hydrated. As the cells in the body are hydrated, it loosens the mucus, which makes it easy to expel phlegm or a cough. Also, it reduces friction caused due to constant coughing. Warm water also improves the ciliary movement thereby sweeping mucus out of the oral cavity and helps you to get rid of cough.

You can drink a glass of warm water every time you feel like coughing or feel soreness in the throat. Do remember to stay hydrated by sipping warm water till you feel better. You can also squeeze a lemon or add honey to warm water as it also helps in dealing with a sore throat and cough effectively.
