So last week, I ran into a friend of mine and we got talking, it was indeed an insightful conversation, I must tell you, continue reading to know why!
She gladly shared her inspiring story with yours truly and also pleaded to remain anonymous for now.
She lived with her elder brother back in the days, who eventually got married to a very busy lady, a banker in one of the new generation banks, and her elder brother was also a practicing lawyer and they both had no time because they were always busy with their jobs trying to make ends meet.
So they decided to bring in my friend to stay with them and also help them take care of their kids since they were not always around and employing a nanny wasn’t an option for them at all, they enrolled her in one of the schools there and she was doing well academically despite all the workload she didn’t despair.
She continued working hard and due to the fact that the children were always playing and dirtying their clothes every day, and nothing like washing machine then, she washed all their clothes every day, at times she just felt like leaving and going back to her father’s house but she loved her school and was about sitting for her senior certificate examination and GCE so she couldn’t leave.
That was how she suddenly developed the love for laundering services! she continued judiciously and immediately she finished her senior school examination, her brother won the Canadian visa lottery and had to leave the country with his family.
Later on, when she got into the university she still loved laundering, doing what she knows how to do best and she kept asking herself what else she could do but she couldn’t figure it out. The only thing she loved was laundry service because she could do it all day long.
Years later after graduating from the university, she got married and started working with a very big company here in Lagos but her mind wasn’t still there, then she made up her mind to work with them for a while, save up money and pursue her dream. After 5years, she saved up some money and she tendered her resignation letter to the company and left, a lot of people blamed her, her family didnt find it funny but she had to pursue her dream.
Today she is a proud owner of one of the most thriving dry cleaning services in Lagos Nigeria.
She followed her dream, she pursued it, she never let anything deter or stop her from actualizing her dreams, she worked hard for it, and she made it! and today she is proud to be called an employer of labour.
Why am I writing this? I know you will be like what is my business? I know a lot of people out there on facebook and Nairaland asking people to help them figure out what type of business to start with a so-so amount of money, and I see them and shake my head.
For you to do anything right, you need to love that thing no matter the circumstance, no one can ever tell you what you love but they can only help you narrow your search but they can never know what you like.
I want to encourage someone today, whatever you love doing start now, plan your life. Turn your passion into a business, and watch it grow and I promise you will never go wrong with that.

July 21, 2016 at 7:52 amYour friend's story is inspiring. Wow! A love for laundering turned into a multi-million dollar company? And to think that I don't like laundry…
I think the happiest people are those who earn money from doing what they love. Nothing beats that.
